Beijing (dpa) - Israel wants to boost cooperation with China in areas such as technology and trade, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday during a meeting with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, according to state broadcaster CCTV.

Netanyahu is visiting China with a business delegation in an effort to achieve better access for Israeli companies to Chinese markets.

Earlier on Monday, Netanyahu chaired a forum with more than 600 Chinese and Israeli businesspeople. He met with heads of Chinese corporations such as Wanda Group, Alibaba and Baidu, according to a statement from his office.

Israel can be the "perfect junior partner" in China‘s efforts to improve its products and services through technology, Netanyahu told the business forum.

"I believe this is a marriage made in heaven," he said.

Li said he saw "great potential in the future" for China and Israel‘s cooperation in areas such as science, infrastructure and trade.

Li and Netanyahu oversaw the signing of cooperation agreements in various economic fields. The two countries are also negotiating a free trade zone.

China is Israel‘s largest trading partner in Asia and third-largest in the world, with trade volumes reaching 11 billion dollars.

On Tuesday, Netanyahu is scheduled to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
