Kabul (dpa) - A number of German military transport helicopters were shot at though no injuries were reported during a flight in Afghanistan‘s northern Kunduz province, the military said late Tuesday.

The helicopters were fired upon while flying from the embattled northern province to Mazar-e Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province, the German military said in a statement.

Mazar-e Sharif is home to the largest contingent of German military personnel in the country.

Fire was returned by German military on-board the helicopters but no one was hurt, according to the statement.

Up to 1,300 German soldiers are currently stationed in Afghanistan as part of the NATO Resolute Support‘s training mission.
