Istanbul (dpa) - German journalist Mesale Tolu Corlu could face up to 15 years in prison if found guilty of terrorism-related charges by a Turkish court, reported leftist news agency ETHA, citing her lawyer.

Tolu, a journalist and translator for ETHA, was arrested April 30 in her Istanbul apartment and is set to go on trial over accusations of terrorism propaganda and membership in a terrorist organization.

Tolu only has German citizenship, unlike Deniz Yucel, who is imprisoned in Silivri. Yucel, a correspondent for German newspaper Die Welt, is a dual German-Turkish national and has been in prison since February.

The trial against Tolu is set to begin October 11.

Die Welt reported Saturday that its publishing company had filed a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights over violations against press freedom over the six-month imprisonment of Yucel.

His imprisonment makes "direct reporting on the situation in Turkey impossible," the complaint filed Friday said. Yucel himself has also lodged complaints with the court in Strasbourg since April. In July, the court had invited the Turkish government to submit a response.

ETHA‘s website was closed in 2015 in Turkey, but the news agency has continued its operations.

The next review hearing on Tolu‘s detention, which routinely take place, is scheduled for August 22 and then again in September.

Germany has called for the release of Tolu, Yucel and human rights activist Peter Steudtner.
