Rome (dpa) - The brother of a man who killed two women at a train station in the French city of Marseille this month has been arrested in Italy on terrorism charges, Italian police said on Sunday.

Anis Hannachi, 25, was apprehended Saturday in the northern city of Ferrara, executing an arrest warrant from France. He is suspected of belonging to a terrorist group and of complicity in the attack.

Police said they would release more details in a 10:30 am (0830 GMT) press conference on Monday.

Hannachi‘s brother Ahmed was shot dead after stabbing the women at Marseille‘s Saint Charles railway station on October 1. He shouted "God is great" in Arabic, according to eyewitnesses. The Islamic State extremist group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Before moving to France, Ahmed Hannachi lived in the Italian town of Aprilia, about 50 kilometres south of Rome, where he was married to an Italian woman. The couple separated in 2014, according to multiple Italian media reports.
