Berlin (dpa) - German carmaker Audi posted a slight rise in operating profits for 2017, after deductions for fines imposed in the wake of the diesel emissions scandal, according to detailed results released by the Volkswagen Group in Berlin on Tuesday.

VW‘s upmarket subsidiary put operating profit at 5.1 billion euros (6.3 billion dollars), up from 4.8 billion euros in 2016. Turnover was up by 0.8 billion euros to 60.1 billion.

Audi was forced to stump up 400 billion euros over the year for the consequences of the emissions scandal, by comparison with 1.8 billion euros in 2016.

The scandal broke in 2015 in the United States, when cheat software was found that falsified emissions readings during testing in the VW Group‘s diesel-powered cars.
