Beirut (dpa) - Clashes have erupted for a second day between rival Palestinian groups in a refugee camp in southern Lebanon, killing at least two people, Lebanese official news agency NNA and Palestinian sources said.

According to Palestinian sources, the clashes started on Monday night in the Palestinian refugee camp of Mieh Mieh, between members of the mainstream Fatah movement and others who belong to Jundallah, which has close links with the Iranian-backed Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah.

NNA reported that two members of the Fatah movement were killed in renewed clashes on Tuesday and another person was wounded.

Palestinian sources told dpa that violence flared up again on Tuesday morning and the sound of heavy machine gunfire and rocket-propelled grenades were heard across the camp, which is located at the outksirts of the southern city of Sidon.

The sources also said the clashes have wounded at least six people, most of whom were from the Fatah movement.

The clashes broke out after a personal dispute between a member of the Fatah movement and another from Jundallah, the sources added, but efforts were under way on Tuesday to contain the fighting.

There are some 400,000 Palestinian refugees living in 12 camps scattered across Lebanon. Security inside the camps is usually in the hands of Palestinian groups.
