Rio de Janeiro (dpa) - Argentina‘s male Olympic footballers had their hotel rooms burgled while playing champions Mexico in a pre Rio Games warm-up on Friday, the country‘s football federation said.

Police in the Mexican city of Puebla are now investigating, with players and team officials affected.

"Valuables and cash were stolen in all the rooms that were burgled," the federation said in a statement on Saturday.

The hotel‘s insurance will pay for the lost goods but it was unclear how so many rooms had been broken into without the crime being initially noticed.

The friendly ended 0-0. The Olympic men‘s football tournament in Brazil begins on August 4, a day before the opening ceremony.
