Pyeongchang, South Korea (dpa) - The United States and Canada will contest yet another Olympic final in women‘s ice hockey after both teams cruised through last four ties at the Pyeongchang Games on Monday.

Finland offered no resistance to the US in being drubbed 5-0 and Canada later crushed the Olympic Athletes from Russia (OAR) by the same score.

The teams will meet on Thursday for the fifth final in six editions since women‘s hockey was introduced at the Nagano Games of 1998. The US won on that occasion but Canada have since dominated with victories in 2002, 2010 and 2014, along with a 2006 defeat of Sweden.

Gigi Marvin and Dani Cameranesi opened the US barrage with first-period goals, Jocelyne Lamourex-Davidson and Hilary Knight doubled in the second period, and Cameranesi completed the scoring in the third.

"We‘re super excited to be in this position again," Lamoureux-Davidson said.

"We‘ve worked four years to put ourselves in the position to compete for a gold medal and we‘ll enjoy this for a little bit, but we know that this isn‘t what we came here for. We‘re ready to go to battle in a couple of days."

Canada‘s Jennifer Wakefield broke the deadlock inside the first two minutes and Marie-Philip Poulin doubled the advantage early in the second period.

Wakefield and Emily Clark then struck in the third and though the OAR tightened up after pulling hapless goalie Valeria Tarakanova for back-up Nadezhda Alexandrova, they could not find a way back into the match.

Rebecca Johnston then completed the scoring on the power play late on.

The OAR will meet Finland in the bronze medal game on Wednesday.
