Kiev (dpa) - Two soldiers were killed and eight others wounded in recent fighting with pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine, military spokesman Andriy Lysenko said Friday.

The violence has been concentrated around the industrial city of Avdiivka, north of the separatist stronghold city of Donetsk. Both sides have blamed the other for using prohibited munitions and tanks.

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) condemned the ceasefire violations and attributed blame to both sides.

"Not everyone wants sustainable ceasefire on both sides of the contact line," the OSCE‘s deputy mission chief, Alexander Hug, said in a post on Twitter.

The sides should take action against violators of the ceasefire, Hug said.

About 10,000 people have died in the conflict, according to estimates by the United Nations.

The conflict erupted three years ago when Kiev ousted its pro-Russian president amid mass protests calling for closer ties with the West.

An internationally brokered peace plan from 2015 has not yet been implemented.
