Rio de Janeiro (dpa) - The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has set up a disciplinary commission to look into a suspected anti-doping rules violation in which a Kenyan coach is said to have attempted to submit a urine sample on behalf of an athlete at the Rio Olympics.

The IOC said Thursday that Kenya‘s Olympic committee sent home an official, reported to be athletics coach John Anzrah, after doping-test officials informed the Kenyan team leadership he had provided a sample for 800-metre runner Ferguson Rotich and signed forms in his name.

Rotich, who came fourth at last year‘s world championships, is now in danger of being kicked out of the Games if found guilty of an offence.

"We take note of the decision of the Kenyan Olympic Committee to send home its athletics coach following a violation of anti-doping rules and we thank the NOC for its swift action," an IOC spokesperson said.

"The IOC has immediately created a Disciplinary Commission to look into the matter with regard to the coach and the athlete concerned."

The IAAF said in a statement emailed to dpa it will ask the IOC for a report on the exact grounds of the prope.

"Depending on the outcome of the investigations and any follow-up action taken by the IOC, there will be a further assessment by the IAAF on whether breaches of IAAF Rules have been committed and, if so, whether further sanctioned must be imposed," the IAAF said.

The news comes a few days after Kenya‘s athletics team leader Michael Rotich was sent home and reportedly arrested after being caught on hidden camera by undercover reporters as offering to inform athletes about upcoming doping tests for 9,000 pounds sterling (11,800 dollars) for a period of three months.

More than 40 Kenyan athletes have failed doping tests since 2011, and Kenyan athletes have been heavily tested in the run-up to the Rio Games.
