Cairo (dpa) - Outgoing Lebanese premier Saad Hariri has said that he is fine and will return home from Saudi Arabia in the next two days.

"I am fine and God willing I am returning within the coming two days ... Let us calm down, " Hariri wrote on Twitter, hours after meeting Lebanese Maronite Patriarch Bishara al-Rai on Tuesday in Saudi Arabia.

It was Hariri‘s first meeting with a high-ranking Lebanese official since his shock resignation as prime minister on November 4 from Saudi Arabia, which also triggered speculation that he was being held there against his will.

Al-Rai also confirmed Hariri‘s return to Lebanon and said that he backs the reasons for his resignation.

Lebanon‘s Future Television, the mouthpiece of Hariri‘s political party, showed a picture of Hariri shaking hands with al-Rai.

The patriarch, who arrived in Saudi Arabia on Monday, also met with Saudi King Salman bin Abdel Aziz, the Saudi Press Agency said.

The report said that the Saudi monarch stressed the important role religions played in establishing security for people in the region and the world.

Al-Rai emphasized the strong friendship between Saudi Arabia and Lebanon.

"This is our history even if we have had stormy relations sometimes. (There) is a history of friendship with this dear kingdom," al-Rai was quoted as saying by Lebanese media while meeting members of the Lebanese community in Saudi Arabia.

Hariri surfaced for the first time in a television interview Sunday, a week after his surprising decision to quit.

In the interview with Future Television, Hariri rejected the growing claims that he was being held by Riyadh and promised to return to Lebanon "very soon."

Hariri, a Sunni Muslim, hinted in that interview that he could go back on his resignation if the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah stops its involvement in regional conflicts.

Under the country‘s power-sharing system, the presidency always goes to a Maronite Christian while the prime minister is a Sunni Muslim and the speaker of parliament is a Shiite.
