Rio de Janeiro (dpa) - All 11 Russian boxers qualified for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics have been cleared to compete by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the ruling boxing body AIBA said on Thursday.

AIBA said it had recommended all the athletes be able to fight at the Games and that "confirmation has been received from the IOC Review Panel that the ... 11 Russian boxers are eligible to compete at Rio 2016."

The team is made up of two women and nine men.

The 11-strong judo team of four women and seven men was also confirmed by their respective federation, as was golf player Maria Verchenova.

Citing officials, the TASS news agency said the eight tennis players (minus Maria Sharapova who is suspended in a meldonium case) are also confirmed; just as the men‘s and women‘s volleyball and beach volleyball teams.

All Russian athletes bidding to compete at the Games which open Friday had to undergo a thorough investigation by their respective federation, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and an IOC panel to be eligible in the wake of allegations that Russia ran a widespread and state-sponsored doping programme.

More than 250 Russians are expected to compete at the August 5-21 Games. The final IOC decision on eligibility was expected Thursday.
